In 2002, late into his life, 75 year old painter Bill Rane spoke with Important Taos Photographer Lenny Foster on tape.
Lenny, acting on love and with intuition, wanted to be sure that Bill's words concerning his art, his life, his philosophy
and his love of paint and painting did not fade after Bill's death. The result is this historic interview that is one
of the only surviving recorded conversations with Bill Rane. The conversation lasts 38 minutes and includes various
distractions and an akward beginning. The material is presented to you raw and uneditted. This conversation
stands as a profound documentation of Bill's unique approach to life, to beauty and to art.
We are very grateful to Lenny Foster for creating this highly significant and preservative material.
This conversation is fully copyright by Lenny Foster and the Bill Rane Estate--his successors, heirs, trustees and administrators.
It is provided strictly for your noncommercial use and private enjoyment. It may not be further copied or disseminated. The
material may not be presented in any public format whatsoever and without exception except with the written permission
of the copyright owners.
Be patient in listening to this material and you will not be disappointed.
You are about to hear Bill Rane reflect honestly, sincerely, and completely on his life, his work, his approach to painting,
and his love of the creative process. This is extraordinarily rare and unique material without known parallel.
We know Bill so completely through his paintings that this interview is serendipity and "extra" in its singularity and integrity
complimenting fully this man's passion for creative expression and further demonstrating plainly his great love in
sharing his unique and penetrating insight into what was for him the integrity and ethic of true creative
process.
We sincerely know of no material anywhere that can be compared to these short thirty-eight minutes.
A special note concerning children and other very sensitive people. This material does
include some words that might offend some listeners. Bill's manner was unique to him and we do not find this material
even slightly offensive on any level. Nonetheless, if one is fully focused on the use of words that are generally not
considered tasteful, offense might be taken. We are aware that some classes have used the Bill Rane Story for education
purposes with children of elementary age education. We are so grateful for the participation of young students,
we would not want this interview to spoil their experience. If in doubt as to suitability in the educational environmennt,
we suggest that you listen to the material first prior to sharing with young or very senstivite people.
