Bill and "The Farm"

Even a few of Bill's very early works, from Guatemala, depicted rural scenes.   By the time of his Early New Mexico Period, Bill had created two of his classic images in oil on canvas.   One was called "Mariposa" and the other was known as "My Last Farm" or "The Farm".    This second image was the basis of an edition of some 77 prints created at the Vigil Family's Graphic Impressions in Taos, New Mexico.   This was a 8 plate linocut print created in the full size of the original "My Last Farm" painting.   Here is the amazing history of it:   Bill eventually finished many of these prints in oils, pastels and otherwise.  The result is the fascinating story of the "Last Farm":

Middle Taos Period, Linocut with Pastel and Oil

Above is one of the most amazing remarques coming out of "Last Farm" linocuts.   This piece achieves an incredible systhesis of "ancient" and "modern".   The color, form and execution are superb.

The Linocut process involves separating colors and making a plate for each color.  Originally the intention was to creat three linocut prints.  Only one was ever executed.   The two unconceived linocuts were to be based on Mariposa and another early paitings titled Loteria.   Adam Harwood, Greg Eisenberg, Michael Vigil and Harvey of Graphic Impressions were all involved in the projected, circa 1990.

Here, in My Last Farm, Too; it is made clear how the history of the farm remarques evolved.  Iniitally, there was no plan to have the prints remarqued.  But, of course, Bill's tremendous creative drive took over and, as is said, the rest is history.  We intend to present as many of The Farm remarques as we can locate and present here on, or through, this page.
